The Next Step
Following Christ and Contending for the Faith
This guide is for the person who finished seven days in Colossians and found that the last day did not feel like an ending. You read about Christ at the center, about knowledge and wisdom, about standing firm, about deception, about the cross, about the old self and the new one, about words spoken in truth and love. And somewhere in those seven days a question started following you around.
It assumes you have a Bible, a little time, and an honest desire to keep going — not a perfect record.
Use it slowly. One page is enough for one sitting. Keep your Bible open beside it and read the passage before you read my words about it; the passage is the point.
A missed day is not a failed faith. Begin where you are.
Before You Begin
How to use it
Where there is a question, answer it in writing. A thought you never write down is a thought you can agree with and forget.
Part One
The Seven Days
You have already read them. What follows is not a summary to replace them but a record of what they asked, kept in one place so you can see the shape of the whole week.
Each entry closes with the question that day left open. You do not have to answer them all today.
Part Two
Following Christ
Five habits, one per section, each with a passage, a lesson, a challenge and a question to reflect on.
- 1The Word
- 2Prayer
- 3The Church
- 4Obedience
- 5Witness
“Admiring Jesus costs almost nothing. Following Him is a different arrangement.”
Part Three
Contending for the Faith
The faith once delivered unto the saints — what it is being contended for, and what it is not.
“It is not a personality type, and it is not a hobby for argumentative men. It is a duty laid on the beloved.”
Part Four
The Next Seven Days
A second week of readings, the same shape as the first, but slower: a verse, two lines to carry, and one prompt for each day.
“Do not catch up by doubling up. If you miss a day, take the next one. Roots are not built by volume.”
